Brews & Views: Integration vs. Naturalisation

There is a widely held assumption that “inburgeren” translates into “integration.” It doesn’t. It actually means “naturalisation.” And while the concepts may seem similar, there are deep differences. The goal of integration is to bring different parts together into a whole whereas naturalisation aims to confer upon people from outside of a group the knowledge and understanding of those in the group.
