“We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for psychedelic drugs. In terms of the role of psilocybin in human evolution on the grasslands of Africa, people not on drugs were behind the curve. The fact is that, in terms of human evolution, people not on psychedelics are not fully human. They’ve fallen to a lower state, where they’re easily programmed, boundary defined, obsessed by sexual possessiveness which is transferred into fetishism and object obsession. We don’t want too many citizens asking where the power and the money really goes. Informed by psychedelics, people might stop saluting. “Take your political party, your job, whatever, and shove it.” -Terence McKenna Tripping

It seems that the occasional use of shrooms actually results in long term happiness.

“With further research, psilocybin (pronounced SILL-oh-SY-bin) may prove useful in helping to treat alcoholism and drug dependence, and in aiding seriously ill patients as they deal with psychological distress, said study lead author Roland
Griffiths of Johns Hopkins.”

Fascinating stuff. As someone who experiences bouts of depression, I’m really interested in the research. I wonder if it could help alleviate some of those symptoms.

“The study involved 36 men and women during an eight-hour lab visit. It’s one of the few such studies of a hallucinogen in the past 40 years, since research was largely shut down after widespread recreational abuse of such drugs in the 1960s.”

Unfortunately this is what you get when Jesus and fear get to play politics with the medical community.
