“I’m proud of paying taxes. The only thing is–I could be just as proud for half the money.” -Arthur Godfrey
As you may have heard, President Obama is planning to meet with union leaders to discuss the proposed tax on so called “Cadillac” health care plans. This tax will be used to help pay for part of the health care overhaul. Unions have their panties in a bunch about this because a number of them have negotiated for such health care plans. From this Huffington Post piece:
“Many union members are enrolled under those plans — having given up salary increases to get the additional health care benefits. Now, they stand to have those benefits taxed.”
So, union members gave up salary for health care benefits. Salary which would have been taxed. And now they are upset about paying taxes on their health care? Are unions basically just admitting to trying to game the system?
Why is there an outcry over paying CEO’s in stock options (because capital gains are taxed at a lower rate than wages) but no outcry when blue collar workers pull the same shit?
