Food For Thought – Spaghetti Sauce

At the moment, I’m using canned tomatoes. I’d like to start using fresh tomatoes eventually but this is my recipe for the time being.


  • Two cans of diced tomatoes (200mL)
  • Two cans of tomato paste (50mL)
  • Two chopped shallots
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of oregano
  • 1 tablespoon of basil
  • ½ tablespoon of bay leaves
  • ½ tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • One can of mushrooms (200mL)
  • 1 diced leek


Mix together in a pot and bring to a boil. Let simmer, stirring frequently, for at least an hour.
